SMART provides reliable public transportation for Sonoma and Marin counties, reducing congestion and connecting communities throughout the North Bay. The SMART Initiative will renew SMART's public funding to ensure safe, well-maintained, and accessible trains and pathways for another 30 years.

Why a Voter-Led Initiative?

In every election since 2006, an overwhelming majority of voters have supported SMART. Through the initiative process, our campaign engages with everyday voters, empowering a simple majority to renew SMART's funding and ensuring that a minority of voters can't unilaterally dismantle the core of North Bay public transit.

What is The SMART Initiative?

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) system is an essential component of our region’s transit

infrastructure - providing reliable public transportation, reducing congestion, and connecting our communities throughout the North Bay. Without raising taxes, the SMART Initiative seeks to renew SMART’s public funding through a

voter-led initiative, ensuring service beyond 2028, and the continued provision of safe, well-maintained, and accessible trains and pathways for the residents of Sonoma and Marin counties.

Who Supports The SMART Initiative?

The SMART Initiative is supported by a growing coalition of North Bay transportation experts, environmental leaders, employers, and civic leaders, including Senator Mike McGuire, Assemblymembers Damon Connolly and Chris Rogers, and has been unanimously endorsed by every County Supervisor of both Marin and Sonoma Counties.
